It's been nearly a week, and still the whole thing keeps playing over in my head. That mountain trek was taken all right, but for the first time, I didn't go alone. This time, Jaelon was with me. It's a damn good thing he was, too, because I don't know what I would have done without him there.
*The woman sighs, and settles down in her seat.*
I guess if I'm going to tell this story I should tell it right and thorough.
That trip is a tradition among a certain tribe of dantari that I've worked closely with for a long time. They have it that their warriors go up to the mountains on a journey of the spirit that starts at the villiage, and ends at some point in the mountains. You take nothing but a robe, and one traditional weapon- for them usually a spear passed down generations yada-yada for that pupose, but for Jaelon and I our lightsabers sufficed. The point is to test a warrior's favor among the spirit world- if he comes back alive, then all is right with him. Supposedly all the spirits of battles past, good and bad, watch you on this journey and guide your fate. Well.. I guess I shouldn't say supposedly anymore, but I'm getting ahead of myself.
Well.. it started out fine, I suppose. No sooner did Jaelon and I get our robes and.. special tea.. did we head out north across the river. "It hasn't been half bad so far," I was cocky enough to say. Lucky me, I got nabbed by a monster-fish about halfway across and pulled down. Jaelon's quick thinking saved me from that one when he retreived my saber, and struck the fish straight through. The bite-mark on my leg stung, but at the time that was it. Yeah.. we agreed to not say how great or bad things were going after that. Shame we did, because after that, there came a great oppertunity to explain stealth. There ahead of us I could feel a pack of grauls much like the one I encountered those years ago when I was learning to creep and sneak myself. Well.. if it could work for me, it could work for him. The two of us slipped un-seen through the pack until the last sly one caught us, and we had to fight our way through. Now that we're safely out of the range of any monster-fish, I can say that did go well.
That's the clearest memory I have from that section of the journey, because shortly after, the tea began to take effect. Funny thing about that tea.. it's a halucinagen. It offers a heightened connection with the spirit-world, all right, but it does so at the cost of warping your perception of reality. The battles and obstacles ahead were a blur of fifty-foot quenkers.. storm troopers with horns and red eyes.. and shadowy force-warriors. Jaelon and I, at calm points in the trek, would talk to each-other to anchor ourselves to reality. We ended up going over what I talked about in my last recording, and I tried my best to find words explaining the Jedi and the Ceterus. I'm not certain exactly what was said, but I remember at least that I can trust him to ask questions when they arise, and that lays a lot of those fears aside.
When that whacky-tea started to partially wear off, I was rudly reminded of the state of my being by a sharp pain shooting up from my leg. Jaelon was more concerned about it than I was, and insisted on wrapping it up witha piece of sash. That helped the bleeding, but the pain was still there, so we searched for a certain orange flower that grows in these parts which works as a painkiller. After I had a good dose of that, we were up and walking again.
Though the invincibility had worn off, the visions were still coming strong. We fought off several specteral enemies before, finally, something happened that was unlike any of the other visions, and can only be explained now that he and I have had a chance to talk it over and compare our experiences. From what I understand, the full story went like this...
*A loud crash is heard from the other room, followed by the confused sounds of young babbling voices, and the horrified sound of an older woman's voice.*
Uh oh.. I better go check that out. I'll complete this later. For now... Yeah.
