Entry #40

*The device clicks on, and the steady sound of footsteps can be heard, quick in persuit of the familar tip-tap-clunk stride in the distance.*

Nyx-Warda... Damn it, come back here. You know it's for your own good. You'll wear yourself down running off from me anyway.

*The tip-tap-clunk stops with a final thud, as she plants her staff in the ground, and sits down. The footsteps move double-time, and stop as well, as he sits down beside her.*

I can't do it right now, Lawrence. You said before that it wasn't ignorance, but mercy, to not have me repeat painful things we already know. This is the same..

No. It's not the same. When I made that recording, I did it to spare you of the danger of that memory. When you deliberately avoid speaking about what troubles you, that is submitting to fear. Don't start again on this path, Nyx-Warda. You haven't made a recording scince before the last time you answered one of those distress signals.

That was different. That madman.. "Rolo" ..he's made puppets of McCay and his crew. Setting up those elaborate stages for... Rrr.. I refuse to be a part of his twisted game.

...and so you're doing the same thing, again, that caused you to renounce your knighthood in the first place. Think about it. Not talking about that is no different from not talking about this. You're afraid of more killing. Something happened that hurt you, and that you find hard to deal with, and you feel you've failed. Your friends and allies are in danger. You're afraid that you can't do anything about it, but if you turn away now, you are only serving those fears. *There is a rustling as he slips the already activated audio-recorder into her hands* Just answer my questions. You have to do it. If you can't face your fears to speak about them, how can you face them to defeat them?

   I...   I understand..

Start with this..  Who is Aliya?

Aliya is someone from Keren's past. She asked him for training once, and he wouldn't or couldn't help her, so now she's going after him. She's responsable for the attacks on him, Xanthya, Diana, and myself. She's insane.. she knows much too much.. she sets up these scenarios.. Like she's planned it. Like she enjoys it. She left riddles and messages.. like she wants to be caught.

   Explain.

Each riddle is a clue to where she will strike next. First she struck Keren's house in Crimson Ridge. He says she trashed the back room, spelled PAY with his lightsabers, and left a message hinting at my being frozen. When she hit me, she carved.. on the ice.. on the carbonite shell I was frozen in, she carved a message on it. Everything was frozen. It had to be on me.. Nyx-Warda. What did it say? It said.. I forget, exactly, but it pointed to Diana. Keren went right away to save her, but by the time he got there, Diana had been almost killed. He tried talking to her, Aliya that is, and for some reason didn't try to kill her. Diana, Later, seemed a bit upset about that. Aliya threw a detonator, and got away. She didn't leave another riddle, but we expect Xanthya would be the most logical target. The problem is, Keren can't contact her. We can't warn her.

   Do you have a plan?

Diana suggested we redirect her to another target. Keren... being Keren.. didn't want either of us to do such a thing, and instead wanted to make himself that target. He and Diana at once seemed to get the same idea- that he should pose as his own father, to bait Aliya, and draw her out. He wants to consult that holocron.. the one I can't speak to.. and ask it about his father so that he can learn to look and act like him. I am to help stage the elder Vyar's joining White Thunder. ...but I am not to help him fight her. Why? Why don't you answer that, Lawrence? You can do so much better than I can.

*Clackity clack-clack. She hands the audio-recorder to Lawrence hastily, pushing it away from herself. He answers her with a firm you-know-this-is-how-it-is tone of voice.*

Because you are in no condition to enter combat, and I will not allow it. Your body is still weakened, and your mind is in danger on its own. Why don't you record what happened while you were frozen in carbonite? Tell us what it was like? Tell us who has broken free, and returned? Who you fought? *His tone drops into a worried tone, as he continues.* Until you can learn again to deal with the Phantom, you're not going anywhere.. It's too risky. You cannot fall.. not if it is in my power to stop you. I expect you to stay here, and seek help with this first, until the danger has passed.

I think we've done enough of this for today. You should go get some rest.

*END*
