Entry #70

   Where do I even start?

Madrid's been recovered, and I've gone home. When things settle down I have to pay Ri the visit that's been too long in coming. Seems there's not a moment's rest, though. Zan's Grandfather Vande'ley has appeared at the base, and has apperantly been there all along. Scince the base is built of the "abandoned" Ragnar complex, it was actually his place, we found. Of course, we didn't know he was there at all, and when the "intruder" showed up, it caused a hell of an uproar. He announced his presence over our network.. came in peace, even.. but we were on the defensive. The real trouble started when Baldwin threw an empty threat at Zan, and Vande'le intervened and attacked him- baldwin not Zan. I heard Ashla scream, and got my ass over there to rain hell. The old man could have killed me if he wanted to, but he didn't want to hurt any of us from the beginning.

It turns out, though, that Ashla had attacked him....  and very successfully. She did it by instinct, apperantly, and didn't seem to be aware of having done anything at all. To me, it sounded like a draining technique, but he said it was something else- a rare power used thousands of years ago. It would make more sense..  the draining technique is leared through experience; by having been drained yourself. Nothing like that has ever happened to Ashla. When the details had been sorted out, I went inside to talk to Ash, and she wanted to see Vande'ley. The two made friends fast, which surprised me. As Keren put it, if Ashla trusts him, that says something.

Zan came by to check on us..  then Keren..  the Caelorn showed up. It got a little crazy back there. It turned out that Old Ragnar is to be a permanent resident here at the base. He might be a little off his rocker, but he's family, and he doesn't mean us any harm. He's looking to rally some folks to his cause, too. He's the founder... and now, sole member... of some kind of new seperatist party called the United Independants. Ever-curious Ashla asked what that means, and now..  heheh.. well it seems his first loyalist is a youngling. Stars, have I got my work cut out for me on that one, but truth be told, I'm sort of the same way.

Soon, Ash became involved in a nice game of cards with Caelorn in which she proceeded to win all his credits. Of course she gave them back, in the end, because we don't hustle friends. Heheh. The evening winded down soon after.

*She switches speeds after a short break*

In other news...  I'm going to.... sell spice. It's part of a bigger mission, and the details can't be disclosed even here, but it has to be done. Even if it is only spread to the thugs and the scum, I don't like doing it. I hate spice. This new stuff is called flashbang, and it's a gas-based hallucinagen that causes a short intense vision. My part of the mission is to introduce it. Though we agreed, strictly, that no innocents be involved in this, I feel that it may be easier said than done. The effects of spice don't stop at the user alone..   Aside from this, there's no doubt Crosswire will find out about it. Under normal circumstances, I know he wouldn't rat me out, but.....  well.....  I know I would rat me out for this. He's my best guy in there, and I've kept him in the dark about my true motives too long and too often. I only hope that he can take my word just one more time.

I had to take my mind off that for a while. I ran through some of the old security feeds with Flynt, and it seems that Ek'ieth has been trying to contact me for a while. I tried her old comm.code, and to my surprise, it actually worked! She's out there in space, somewhere, and all this time she thought I was dead. She sounds like she's doing well, for the most part. There are still a couple things we need to talk about in person. We talked a bit about flying ships. She offered to teach me a couple things, even. Come to think of it, I'm not sure whether or not she's aware that I'm blind. Speaking of teaching a couple things, she's been looking to lear a couple things about the force. Maybe I can help her a bit, but it seems that she's more likely to go to a jedi before me. Arze...  I have to learn to pronounce his full name. In any case, I'll contact him in Madrid about it.

I was about to do just that, when more trouble appeared on the horizon. Keren called me up. He was worried about Xanthya. It seems that she's withdrawn a bit, and won't allow herself to be contacted. He can sense that she's troubled, but suggested that she's probably meditating. In light of that, he's giving her a bit of time to sort herself before we send out the search party, scince she doesn't seem to be in danger. He still perferred a bit of company, I expect, to take his mind of trouble. It seems he's interested in Alchemy. That surprised me. I've never heard of "Alchemy" without "Sith" attatched to it...  not something the Jedi welcomed with open arms, but as he said, either was marriage. Glad to know he's starting to see a few things that way. We dug up some of the old books and clues that I worked with, and worked on that for a bit before he headed off.

Topped off the night with my last meditation, and a bit of gabaki to sleep. Gabaki..  it was hard for me to turn to a plant I didn't alter myself to aide me in sleep. Yet.. it's proved to be a valuable component. Of course, scince it has a name, it has a reputation. Oh well. It's better than lying awake as long as I can afraid of my own dreams. I think I'm about out of words right about now anyway. I've got work to do.
