Only now do I realize how much Oretto and I must truly begin at the beginning. I asked him a few questions when we started off, just to see what he already knew. It.. turned out to be virtually nothing. How do I explain something like the force? The light? The dark? From... the beginning..
*She lets out a somewhat irritated sigh, and is silent a minute. After a short time, you can hear a stone-on-stone ringing as she runs her hand along the newly made Ceterus robes.*
I told Jaelon about him.. and he laughed at me. It wasn't a real mocking laugh toward me, I don't think, but the same sort of laugh you might give if your speeder broke down in the dune sea. To be honest I was unsure what he would think of the situation. The last time we talked about it, I had actually made it very clear that I intended to kill Oretto if we crossed paths again. That.. was the plan, actually. Smile to his face, then saber him in the back, taking Ark with him. How quickly plans can change...
When Jaelon saw Oretto and I in the dojo, he wasted no time drawing his pistol, but he didn't shoot. He could have if he wanted to.. I've witnessed how fast he is.. but apperantly he didn't want to because he gave me time to explain. Then the laugh. Then after... an apology. I found it strange that Jaelon should be the one to apologize, but not as strange that he would be the first to make a gesture of goodwill. He always had that.. moral center about him.. like some kind of good angel. That sounds cornier than I wanted it to, but I really don't know how to describe it. He's trustworthy.
He told me later that night that he was leaving- he and Keela-Ri are moving to a quiet corner of the galaxy where they can raise little Cas' in peace. She will not be coming back, but he will be from time to time. So far from the system... that's the point, really, but still... The idea that we would be so far away reminded me that it high time he come a little bit closer. I invited him to join the Ceterus, officially, and on equal terms with the rest of our small family. He's still continuing his training, but when he joins the Ceterus he will be as an equal to us nevertheless. I had talked it over with the others before, of course, but had really been waiting and watching for the right time. He accepted the invitation rather gratefully.. and I'm almost embarassed what an old snorbal I turned into when he welcomed it so happily. In any case, I'm working on his robes as I record this, and he'll be sworn in any day now.
*There is another short pause as she tops off the recording with a very light comment.*
In other news, I miss my staff. I could use it well for whacking folks right about now. Gotta dig through the armory house for my old collapsable one, and put it to good use.
